Emerson Fittipaldi on the Copersucar years: "I was taking a risk, it's true".
Fittipaldi Automotive, sometimes called Copersucar after its first major sponsor, was the only Formula One motor racing team and constructor ever to be based in Brazil. It was formed during 1974 by racing driver Wilson Fittipaldi and his younger brother, double world champion Emerson, with money from the Brazilian sugar and alcohol cooperative Copersucar.
The team raced under a Brazilian licence. In 1976, Emerson surprised the motor racing world by leaving the title-winning McLaren team to drive for the unsuccessful family outfit. James Hunt took Fittiapldi’s place at McLaren in 1976 and won the F1 Driver’s championship in his first year. Future world champion Keke Rosberg took his first podium finish in Formula One with the team.
Based in São Paulo, their headquarters were almost 6,000 miles (10,000 km) away from the centre of the world motor racing industry in the UK, so in 1977 they relocated to Reading.
The team's best result came at their home Grand Prix in 1978 where Fittipaldi qualified 7th in the F5A.
In the closing stages 2nd placed Andretti was in serious trouble, the Lotus dramatically losing speed as the American fought with a troublesome gear selection issue. That gave Fittipaldi running in 3rd a perfect opportunity to take the place and, with seven laps to go, a huge cheer from the Brazilian crowd signalled that the yellow car was ahead. It was the first and only podium he achieved for the family team.
Fittipaldi Automotive entered 71 Grands Prix between 1975 and 1979 scoring a total of 32 championship points.

Lead Times to Fulfill Your Order
90% of all products on our website are designed and manufactured by our small in-house team. We try to have stock of each product available for prompt despatch but if your order is for a special occasion, please do check stock availability and lead times with us first. This lead time may be longer at busy periods such as Christmas and Father's Day. On average it takes us 1-3 days to prepare a clothing order.
Untracked Shipping
If you select ‘Standard Mail - Not Tracked’, as your chosen shipping method, we will be unable to track your order when it is in transit and provide you with only ‘Proof of Postage’. We highly recommend that if you are outside the UK and order a number of items, that you select ‘ Standard Mail - Tracked’ as a minimum. We want your order to get to you without delay, but we have found in the past that ’Standard Mail - Not Tracked (especially to USA, Brazil and Mexico) that there is a 20% likelihood that your order will not arrive.
Returns Policy
You may return most new, unopened items within 30 days of delivery for a full refund. We'll also pay the return shipping costs if the return is a result of our error (you received an incorrect or defective item, etc.).
You should expect to receive your refund within four weeks of giving your package to the return shipper, however, in many cases you will receive a refund more quickly. This time period includes the transit time for us to receive your return from the shipper (5 to 10 business days), the time it takes us to process your return once we receive it (3 to 5 business days), and the time it takes your bank to process our refund request (5 to 10 business days).
If you need to return an item, simply login to your account, view the order using the 'Complete Orders' link under the My Account menu and click the Return Item(s) button. We'll notify you via e-mail of your refund once we've received and processed the returned item.
Shipping
We can ship to virtually any address in the world. Note that there are restrictions on some products, and some products cannot be shipped to international destinations.
When you place an order, we will estimate shipping and delivery dates for you based on the availability of your items and the shipping options you choose. Depending on the shipping provider you choose, shipping date estimates may appear on the shipping quotes page.
Please also note that the shipping rates for many items we sell are weight-based. The weight of any such item can be found on its detail page. To reflect the policies of the shipping companies we use, all weights will be rounded up to the next full pound.
